TROOP B - NEWS RELEASE May 6, 2016 LaPlace Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash St. John the Baptist Parish – This afternoon, shortly before 4:00 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a fatal crash involving a motorcycle on LA 44 at West 2nd Street. The crash claimed the life of 51 year old Johnnie Lee Lipscomb of LaPlace, LA. Troopers’ preliminary investigation revealed that Lipscomb was driving a 2001 Suzuki motorcycle east on LA 44 and for unknown reasons, he lost control of the Suzuki in a curve and crossed the center line. The Suzuki then struck a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt, driven by Christina Lecompte of Vacherie, LA. Lipscomb was ejected from the Suzuki and transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Impairment is unknown for Lipscomb and a toxicology test will be performed after an autopsy. Lecompte submitted to a breath test and no detectable alcohol was found. Lipscomb was wearing a DOT approved helmet at the time of the crash. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Troopers encourage all riders to take an approved motorcycle safety course. These courses teach safe riding practices and help you apply safe riding strategies that can help reduce your chance of injury should a crash occur. Making good choices while riding a motorcycle, such as never driving while distracted, can often mean the difference between life and death.
