TROOP B - NEWS RELEASE February 11, 2016 Slidell Woman Faces Multiple Charges Following French Quarter Hit and Run Pursuit Orleans Parish – Following a hit and run crash and short pursuit down French Quarter streets, 35 year-old Slidell resident, Michelle Young, faces several charges after her reckless actions resulted in two pedestrians being moderately injured. The incident took place shortly after midnight as Troopers patrolling the French Quarter observed Young driving her Saturn sedan against traffic on Bourbon Street at a high rate of speed. Young proceeded to hit two pedestrians at the intersection of Bourbon Street and St. Louis Street. One Trooper stayed on the scene to render aid and a second Trooper began to pursue the Saturn as it continued the wrong way on Bourbon before turning left onto Conti Street. Young proceeded to turn right on Charters Street against traffic and then right on Iberville Street, traveling for a third time the wrong way on a one way street. As the Saturn continued in an extremely reckless manner towards Rampart Street, the Trooper was able to utilize his patrol vehicle to stop and disable the Saturn before any other pedestrian traffic was injured. Young was transported to Central Lock-Up and booked accordingly on the following charges:
· Negligent Injuring · Reckless Operation · Flight from an Officer · Traveling Against Traffic on a One Way · No License Plate · Suspended Driver’s License · Failure to Yield The injured pedestrians were transported to a local hospital and treated for moderate injuries.
