TROOP B - NEWS RELEASE February 10, 2016 Carnival 2016 Louisiana State Police Statistics Louisiana State Police deployed approximately 170 troopers from across the state to assist with the Mardi Gras festivities in New Orleans. The Troopers’ assignments consisted of foot patrols in the French Quarter and parade routes, plain clothes operations, SWAT details along parade routes, vehicle patrols in the French Quarter and surrounding areas and air support. Troopers were able to supplement the NOPD and provide extra police security to citizens, tourists and parade goers. The Louisiana State Police Mardi Gras detail began January 29 through January 31, 2016 and February 5 through February 10, 2016. Carnival 2016 was a success and some of the actions taken by Troopers are highlighted below:
· 15 Illegally possessed weapons were seized · 8 Stolen vehicles were recovered · Nearly $73,500 worth of illegal narcotics seized · LSP assisted NOPD over 950 times · LSP answered over 565 calls for service · Troop B investigated 1 fatal crash, 40 injury crashes with 53 injuries, 77 property damage crashes · 24 DWI arrests · 589 Speeding citations and 132 seat belt citations were issued Louisiana State Police will continue to support NOPD with the New Orleans Enforcement Detail that has been in effect since March 11, 2015. Manpower assignments on this detail will vary according to scheduled events in the city.
