TROOP B NEWS RELEASE August 2, 2016 Joint Investigation Results in Metairie Bookkeeper’s Arrest for Theft of Over $51,000 Jefferson Parish, LA - On Monday, August 1, 2016, Troopers with the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigation arrested 53 year old Metairie resident Stephanie LeBlanc for felony theft and four counts of filing or maintaining false public records. The arrest was the result of a joint criminal investigation by the Louisiana State Police and the Louisiana Department of Revenue - Office of Charitable Gaming. On July 8, 2016, investigators were contacted by the Carnival Krewe of Pygmalion in reference to discrepancies in the group’s bingo revenue profits. Banking records indicated that profits earned from bingo proceeds collected had been misappropriated. An audit of the records showed that over $51,000 in funds had been taken, and over 100 discrepancies were found that showed account records had been altered to conceal missing funds. Based on these discrepancies, agents made contact with the Bingo Chairman for the Krewe of Pygmalion, Stephanie Leblanc, who was in charge of the bookkeeping. Leblanc admitted to investigators that she was taking the cash and altering the records to account for the missing funds. Based on statements and evidence obtained through investigative means, agents were able to determine that LeBlanc removed funds in the bingo account from April 2015 to January 2016, and falsified four Louisiana Department of Revenue Charitable Gaming Quarterly Reports. LeBlanc was arrested and booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna and charged with Theft of $51,830 and four counts of filing or maintaining false public records. The investigation is on-going.
