Unrestrained 17 Year Old Dies in Single Vehicle Crash in Pointe Coupee Parish

Pointe Coupee Parish Shortly before 3:00 am on February 19, 2017, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle crash on LA 417 south of LA 970 in Pointe Coupee Parish. The crash took the life of 17 year old Clayton Jarreau of Ventress, LA.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Jarreau was traveling southbound on LA 417 in a 2003 GMC Sierra. For reasons still under investigation, Jarreau failed to negotiate a left hand curve and ran off the right side of the roadway. Jarreau’s vehicle struck a culvert and began to overturn.

Jarreau was not restrained at the time of the crash and sustained fatal injuries. Jarreau also had two passengers in the vehicle. They were transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center with severe injuries. Impairment is suspected to be a factor in this crash and a toxicology sample will be taken from Jarreau for analysis.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that while not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
