| TROOP A NEWS RELEASE March 9, 2017 Driver Succumbs to Injuries after Four Vehicle Crash in Ascension Parish Gonzales, LA – Shortly after 7:00 pm on March 7, 2017, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a four vehicle crash involving serious injuries on US 61 near LA 30 in Ascension Parish. On March 9, 2017, Troopers were informed that 33 year old Kevin Campbell of Laplace, LA had succumb to injuries he sustained in the crash. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Campbell was traveling northbound on US 61 in a 2015 Dodge Charger. For unknown reasons, Campbell struck the rear of another northbound vehicle. This triggered a chain reaction crash involving 3 other vehicles and ended with Campbell’s vehicle striking a utility pole. Campbell was unrestrained and sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash. He was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital for treatment. He later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by medical personnel. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash but toxicology samples were taken from all drivers for analysis. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that all occupants of a motor vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
