| NEWS RELEASE Louisiana State Police Troop –B FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE DATE: January 22, 2008 Three Vehicle Crash Closes I-10 Eastbound On Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at 3:19 AM, Louisiana State Police, Troop B investigated a three vehicle crash on I-10 eastbound at mile-post # 213. The crash involved a 1997 Ford pick-up, driven by Mr. Joseph Manchester, of Marrero, Louisiana, a 2005 Chevrolet pick-up, driven by Mr. Michael Butscher of Ponchatoula, Louisiana and a 2002 Freightliner 18 wheeler (U.S. mail carrier), driven by Ozell Williams of Tallahassee, Florida. The Ford pick-up was traveling eastbound on I-10 in the left lane adjacent to the Chevrolet pick-up in the right lane. The Ford struck debris in the roadway and veered to the right striking the Chevrolet. Both vehicles then swerved right striking the right guardrail. The Ford pick-up deflected off of the guardrail and came to rest in the left lane at which time it was struck by the Freightliner which pushed the Ford back onto the right shoulder. After the impact the Freightliner subsequently ignites and completely burns blocking I-10 eastbound. Due to the damage caused by the fire the vehicle was unstable and required special equipment to be removed from the bridge. The Freightliner was contracted by the U.S Postal Service to transport mail. The remaining mail was unloaded under the supervision of the U.S. Postal Inspectors. As a result of the crash I-10 eastbound at mile post # 213 was closed and all traffic was diverted to alternate routes. I-10 was reopened at 8:31 AM. All drivers were treated for minor injuries and released.
