TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE December 16, 2011 Unrestrained Driver Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash, Impairment Suspected Lakeland – Louisiana State Police, Troop A investigated a single-vehicle crash early this morning in Pointe Coupee Parish. The crash occurred on LA 413 north of US 190 at 4:00 am, and claimed the life of the unrestrained driver. Troopers’ preliminary investigation revealed that Dylan Juge (B/M, age 20) of Glynn was driving a 1998 Chevrolet pickup north on LA 413 near Alma Plantation when he ran off the roadway to the right. The pickup struck a driveway embankment, vaulted, and landed on its roof in the ditch along the east edge of the roadway. Juge, who was NOT restrained when the crash occurred, was pronounced deceased on the scene by the Pointe Coupee Parish Coroner’s Office. It is unknown why Juge lost control of the vehicle and ran off the road, but Troopers do suspect impairment was a factor in the crash. A sample of Juge’s blood has been submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis. Impaired driving and lack of seat belt use continue to be common factors in fatal crashes across the state and across the nation. A very large majority of fatal crashes can be prevented by making the proper decisions before driving. All too often, Troopers are called to investigate fatal crashes that are preceded by one, or a series of, foolish decisions. State Police urges citizens to assist in the fight against impaired driving by making good decisions and helping others to make good decisions on our roadways. If everyone involved would follow a few simple rules, the numbers of deaths and serious injuries resulting from crashes would be significantly reduced. Troopers are asking that everyone think before getting behind the wheel of a vehicle by never driving impaired, never allowing an impaired person to drive, never getting into a vehicle with an impaired driver, and always wearing a seat belt.
