TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE December 26, 2011 Clinton Woman Murdered While Driving Vehicle, Brother Arrested Clinton – Louisiana State Police Troop A responded to a report of a single-vehicle injury crash shortly before 7:00 pm last night in East Feliciana Parish. Upon arrival to the scene, Troopers learned that the driver had been stabbed and immediately initiated a homicide investigation. Troopers secured the scene and contacted State Police Detectives to investigate. East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Detectives are assisting with the investigation. Detectives’ preliminary investigation indicated that Jessica Holmes (B/F, age 24) of Clinton was driving her 2006 Infinity eastbound on LA 10 at LA 955 with three passengers when she was stabbed in the back and neck. Kovarus Hills (B/M, age 24) of Clinton was riding in the front passenger seat. Jessica Holmes’ brother, Justin Holmes (B/M, age 21) of Clinton, was in the rear seat directly behind the driver’s seat. There was also a toddler seated in the rear right seat. Detectives say that Justin Holmes stabbed Jessica Holmes a number of times with a knife while she was driving, and the vehicle ran off the roadway and struck a tree. Detectives discovered that Hills was stabbed in the hand as he attempted to stop Justin Holmes. Justin Holmes, Kovarus Hills, and the toddler all sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the crash. They were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Jessica Holmes was pronounced deceased on the scene by the East Feliciana Coroner’s Office. Detectives worked through the night processing the scene, interviewing witnesses, and furthering the investigation. After completing the on-scene investigation, Detectives submitted the knife, the vehicle, and other evidence to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for processing. After conducting follow-up interviews and reviewing the case, Detectives arrested Justin Holmes and booked him into the East Feliciana Parish Prison.
