Troopers Identify and Arrest Driver in Crash that Closed I-10 for 12 Hours

Gonzales, LA – On August 17, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A and the LSP Fugitive Task Force arrested 31 year old Brandon Gonzales of Baton Rouge, LA in Gonzales, LA.

On August 9, 2016, Gonzales was traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 east of Siegen Lane in a stolen Ford Fusion. Gonzales lost control of his vehicle and struck an 18-wheeler carrying Isobutane causing it to overturned. Gonzales then exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.

Gonzales’ identity was unknown at the time of crash but Troopers obtained surveillance footage from area businesses and were able to get still photos. Within minutes of releasing photos, Troopers received multiple tips identifying Gonzales as the driver. Troopers followed up on those tips and were able to confirm Gonzales as the driver. On August 10, 2016, Troopers secured a warrant for Gonzales’ arrest.

Today, Troopers located Gonzales at a residence on LA 429 in Ascension Parish. Troopers placed Gonzales under arrest and booked him into the East Baton Rouge Parish Jail. Gonzales was charged with Hit and Run, Reckless Operation, Aggravated Obstruction of a Highway of Commerce, Driving Under Suspension for Prior DWI, Illegal Possession of Stolen Things, Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Negligent Injuring, and Switched License Plates.

Troopers Seek Person of Interest in Crash that Closed I-10 for 12 Hours

Baton Rouge, LA Troopers are asking for the public’s help in identifying and locating a person of interest in the August 5th crash that shut down Interstate 10 in Baton Rouge for over 12 hours.

Shortly after 10:00 am on August 5, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle crash on Interstate 10 eastbound east of Siegen Lane. The crash involved an 18-wheeler carrying Isobutane that overturned after being struck by a red 2008 Ford Fusion. The driver of the 18-wheeler sustained minor injuries, and the driver of the Ford Fusion fled the scene on foot. Troopers later learned that the Ford Fusion was reported stolen from Baton Rouge.

The person of interest is a white male with long blonde and brown hair. He also has tattoos covering both arms and legs. Witnesses reported seeing a white male with long hair running from the crash scene into the Siegen Lane Marketplace. Surveillance video obtained by Troopers from the Siegen Lane Marketplace Walmart showed the subject with his hair down, wearing green shorts and a white T-shirt prior to entering Walmart. Later footage shows the subject exit Walmart with his hair pulled up, and wearing a grey T-shirt.

Troopers are asking that anyone with any information regarding this person to contact Louisiana State Police Troop A at 225-754-8500, or their local law enforcement agency.
