TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE

January 20, 2012
Pedestrian Struck and Killed in West Baton Rouge Parish

Bueche – Louisiana State Police Troop A investigated a fatal crash involving a pedestrian early this morning in West Baton Rouge Parish. The crash occurred on LA 983 (Bueche Road) north of LA 620 (Section Road) shortly before 6:00 am.

Troopers’ preliminary investigation revealed that Brandon Gueho (W/M, age 24) of Port Allen was driving a 2006 Chevrolet pickup south on Bueche Road when he struck a pedestrian, Raylynn Guidry (W/F, age 21) of Marrero, who was standing in the southbound travel lane. The area where the crash occurred was dark and Guidry was wearing dark clothing. Troopers’ do not suspect impairment to have been a factor in this crash. Although Gueho was not suspected of impaired driving, he voluntarily submitted a breath sample to Troopers that showed he had no detectable alcohol in his system. Gueho was properly restrained when the crash occurred and was uninjured. Guidry was pronounced deceased on the scene by the West Baton Rouge Coroner’s Office.

State Police investigated several pedestrian fatalities last year, and most of them occurred during the hours of darkness. Troopers remind motorists to remain vigilant while driving in all conditions, to be aware of their surroundings, and to always ensure they are properly restrained. It is equally as important for pedestrians to pay close attention to what is going on around them. They should wear light-colored reflective clothing and walk only in well-lit areas against traffic.
