Denham Springs Woman Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash

Baton Rouge – Louisiana State Police Troop A investigated a fatal crash on LA Highway 1019 east of LA 1022 that claimed the life of a Denham Springs woman yesterday. The Livingston Parish crash occurred shortly after 3:00 pm.

Troopers’ preliminary investigation revealed that Michael Mitchell (W/M, age 39) of Walker was driving a 2000 Ford pickup east on LA 1019 when he entered a right-hand curve, crossed the centerline, and side-swiped a 1992 Dodge pickup. The Dodge, being driven by Ronald Hays (W/M, age 66) of Denham Springs, then ran off the roadway to the right, entered the ditch, and overturned. Hays was properly restrained and was not injured in the crash. The Ford pickup continued east on the roadway and crashed head-on into a 1999 Lincoln passenger car, being driven by Marion Wall (W/F, age 68) of Denham Springs.

Wall was fatally injured in the crash and was pronounced deceased on the scene by the Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office. Mitchell sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital by Acadian Ambulance Air-Med. Troopers do not suspect impairment to have played a factor in the crash; however, samples the drivers’ blood have been submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis. The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.

With the holiday weekend approaching, Troopers would like to remind the public to exercise good judgment and patience. Simple decisions, such as wearing a seat belt, not driving impaired, and not getting into a vehicle with an impaired driver can have lasting effects. These decisions can mean the difference between life and death and have an impact on many more people than just the ones involved.
