TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE
June 9, 2012
Woman and Infant Killed in Ascension Crash

Shortly after 11 AM, Louisiana State Police Troop A investigated a single vehicle crash on LA 928 in Ascension Parish where a woman and her 1 year old child were killed.

The investigation revealed that a 2008 Honda Civic, driven by Hiromi Dille (age 41) of Baton Rouge, LA, was traveling west on LA 928 between LA 74 and LA 427. For unknown reasons, the Civic traveled off the road to the left and struck a driveway embankment forcing the vehicle airborne. The Civic then rolled slightly in the air and struck a tree. The driver and the passenger were transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital where they both died from their injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was properly wearing a seat belt, and the male infant was properly restrained in a child safety seat.

Investigating Troopers report that alcohol was not a factor in the crash. Blood was taken from Dille and the test results will be pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. This crash remains under investigation.

While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts and child restraints can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
