TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE July 24, 2012 Unrestrained Driver Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash French Settlement – Louisiana State Police Troop A investigated a single-vehicle crash that claimed the life of an unrestrained driver this afternoon. The crash occurred on LA 22 east of LA 16 in Livingston Parish shortly before 2:00 pm. Troopers’ preliminary investigation revealed that Robert Mamolo (W/M, age 28) of Maurepas was driving a 1997 Ford Explorer west on LA 22 when he ran off the road to the right. The vehicle re-entered the roadway, crossed the centerline, and entered the on-coming travel lane. Mamolo over-corrected, ran off the road to the right again, re-entered the roadway, and overturned. Mamolo was not properly restrained at the time of the crash and was pronounced deceased on the scene by the Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office. The two juvenile passengers were both properly restrained at the time of the crash and sustained only minor injuries. Louisiana’s seat belt law requires that ALL vehicle occupants, regardless of age or seating position, remain properly restrained at all times while a vehicle is being operated on a public roadway. The single most effective thing people can do to decrease chances of death and serious injuries in crashes is to wear a seat belt. The simple task of buckling up can mean the difference between life and death. BUCKLE UP…SEAT BELTS SAVE LIVES!!! Contact Information: TFC Russell G. Graham II | |||
