TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE August 7, 2012 Fatal Hit and Run Investigation Leads to Arrest of Holden Woman Baton Rouge – Troopers have arrested a Holden woman following an extensive investigation into a hit and run crash that claimed the life of a cyclist on July 7, 2012. The arrest came Friday, August 3, after a three week investigation into the crash and circumstances surrounding the crash. On July 7, 2012 shortly before midnight, Troopers were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash involving a cyclist on LA 426 west of US 190 in East Baton Rouge Parish. The cyclist, Mr. Eddie Arinder (W/M, age 50) of Baton Rouge, sustained serious injuries in the crash, and later died at Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans. The vehicle that struck the cyclist fled the scene after the crash. Troopers immediately began an investigation into the identity of the suspect vehicle and driver. During the investigation, Troopers identified the suspect vehicle as a late-model (2006-2011) Ford Ranger. Further investigation led Troopers to the residence of Jodie Hoseth (W/F, age 21) of Holden. On July 12, Troopers located a 2006 Ford Ranger at the residence that had damage consistent with the crash involving the cyclist. Troopers continued the investigation and obtained a search warrant from the 21st Judicial District Court for the Ford Ranger on July 16, 2012. Along with forensic scientists from the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab, Troopers positively identified Hoseth’s Ford Ranger as having been involved in the fatal hit and run crash. On July 20, 2012, Troopers obtained video security footage from a local gas station less than two miles from the crash location. Through the use of this footage, Troopers were able to place Hoseth as the driver of the vehicle shortly after the crash occurred near the crash location. The lead investigating Trooper then obtained a warrant for Hoseth’s arrest from the 19th Judicial District Court on the charge of Felony Hit and Run. Troopers placed Hoseth under arrest Friday night and booked her into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. Contact Information: TFC Russell G. Graham II | |||
