The investigation revealed that a 2012 Ford pickup was traveling south on LA 37 just south of Alphonse Road. For unknown reasons, the truck traveled off the road to the right in a left curve. As the truck left the road it struck a culvert causing the truck to flip and land on its passenger side. The truck continued to travel on its side, striking a second culvert and two trees. The pickup was being driven by Daniel Couvillion (White/Male, D.O.B. 03/05/86) of Greenwell Springs, LA. Couvillion, who was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead on scene by the East Baton Rouge Coroner’s Office.

Alcohol use is unknown at this time and routine toxicology tests are pending. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers remind everyone to remain safe on the roads, and not to operate any form of transportation under the influence of alcohol. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
