TROOP A NEWS RELEASE May 21, 2017 Motorcyclist Dies in Pointe Coupee Parish Crash Pointe Coupee Parish– Shortly before 7:00 pm on May 20, 2017, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcycle on LA 415 east of LA 413 in Pointe Coupee Parish. The crash took the life of 56 year old Charles Roy of Ventress. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Roy was traveling eastbound on LA 415 on a 2003 Honda Shadow. For reasons still under investigation, Roy failed to negotiate a curve and ran off the roadway. Roy’s vehicle crashed into the tree line and was ejected from the motorcycle. Roy sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash. He was transported to the Pointe Coupee General where he was later pronounced deceased. It is unknown if impairment was a factor in this crash but a toxicology sample will be taken from Roy for analysis. Troopers encourage all riders to take an approved motorcycle safety course. These courses teach safe riding practices and help you apply safe riding strategies that can help reduce your chance of injury should a crash occur. Making good choices while riding a motorcycle, such as never driving while impaired and obeying all traffic laws, can often mean the difference between life and death.
