Single-Vehicle Crash Claims the Life of Mississippi Man Baton Rouge – Louisiana State Police Troop A investigated a fatal crash shortly before midnight last night on Interstate 10 in Iberville Parish. Troopers’ preliminary investigation revealed that Donald Hunt (W/M, age 54) of Louisville, MS was driving a 2005 International tractor pulling a trailer west on Interstate 10, east of Grosse Tete, when he ran off the road to the right. The trailer began to jack-knife and remained upright while the cab of the truck rolled onto its left side and caught fire. Hunt sustained fatal injuries in the crash and the Iberville Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced him deceased on the scene. He was the only occupant in the truck and there were no other vehicles involved in the crash. Troopers do not suspect alcohol to have played a factor in the crash. However, Troopers have submitted a sample of Hunt’s blood to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis. The crash remains under investigation. This is the first fatal crash that Troop A has investigated this year. Troopers would like to remind motorists to remain vigilant and continue to make the proper decisions to keep themselves and everyone around them safe on our roadways. Sleepy drivers and distracted drivers can be just as dangerous as impaired drivers. The public can help keep our roadways safe by never getting behind the wheel of a vehicle impaired, never getting into a vehicle with an impaired driver, and always buckling up.
