TROOP A NEWS RELEASE June 3, 2017 Impairment Suspected to be a Factor in Crash that Killed an Unrestrained Holden Man in Livingston Parish Livingston Parish– Shortly after 12:00 am on June 3, 2017, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatality crash on LA 441 south of LA 1036 in Livingston Parish. The crash took the life of 57 year old Ernest Miller of Holden. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Miller was traveling southbound on LA 441 in a 1996 GMC Sierra. For reasons still under investigation, Miller ran off the left side of the roadway into a ditch. Miller was ejected from his vehicle after it struck a telephone pole and a tree. Miller was unrestrained at the time of the crash and sustained serious injuries. He was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. Impairment is suspected to be a factor in this crash and a toxicology sample will be taken from Miller for analysis. Impaired driving and the lack of seat belt use continue to be the leading causes of death in motor vehicle crashes in Louisiana. Troopers wish to remind motorists that all occupants of a motor vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
