Texas Man Killed in Interstate 10 Crash in Iberville Parish

Ramah – Louisiana State Police Troop A investigated a multiple-vehicle fatal crash shortly after midnight last night on Interstate 10 eastbound near Ramah. Troopers’ preliminary investigation revealed that Jonas Richmond (W/M, age 39) of Roanoke, TX was driving a 2004 Ford pickup east on Interstate 10 near milepost 135 when he lost control of the vehicle and struck the guardrail. The pickup came to rest in the inside eastbound lane with the passenger side facing on-coming traffic. Richmond stepped out of the vehicle and stood next to the driver’s door just before a 2001 Freightliner truck, being driven by Anthony Lang (W/M, age 53) of Rome, GA, struck the passenger side of the pickup. The pickup struck Richmond and continued rolling east on the roadway. Immediately after the first collision, a 2009 International truck, being driven by Ronnie Davis (B/M, age 46) of Rex, GA came to a controlled stop and was struck from behind by a 2011 Peterbuilt truck, being driven by John Scott (W/M, age 49) of Baton Rouge, pushing it into the previous crash scene. Richmond was fatally injured and was pronounced deceased on the scene by the Iberville Parish Coroner’s Office.

Alcohol is not suspected to have played a factor in this crash. However, Troopers have submitted a sample of Richmond’s blood to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis. The three truck drivers each submitted breath samples to Troopers, which showed that they had no detectable alcohol in their systems. Troopers suspect that the roadway condition was a contributing factor to the crash, which remains under investigation. Troopers cleared the roadway of the crash by 6:00 am, but Interstate 10 remained closed to traffic until 10:00 am because of black ice on the Whiskey Bay Bridge.
