Troopers Arrest Baton Rouge Woman for Insurance Fraud Baton Rouge – Troopers assigned to the Baton Rouge Insurance Fraud / Auto Theft Unit arrested a Baton Rouge woman yesterday following an investigation into an insurance claim she filed last year. The investigation began as a result of a complaint made by the Liberty Mutual Insurance Company against Linda Gurvin (B/F, age 43) of Baton Rouge. Through the investigation, Troopers learned that Gurvin filed a property damage claim on her automobile policy for tires she claimed were slashed while the vehicle was parked at her residence. Gurvin submitted an invoice to Liberty Mutual for the replacement of the tires, and Troopers’ investigation revealed that the invoice was fabricated. The cost of the tires had been inflated on the invoice by nearly seven hundred dollars. Upon completion of the investigation, Troopers obtained a warrant for Gurvin’s arrest from the 19th Judicial District Court in East Baton Rouge Parish. Troopers arrested Gurvin yesterday and booked her into the East Baton Rouge Parish prison on the felony charge of Insurance Fraud. Liberty Mutual denied the claim and Gurvin never received any payments. However, just the attempt to defraud an insurance company is a violation of Louisiana Revised Statute 22:1925. If convicted, Gurvin shall be subjected to a term of imprisonment, with or without hard labor, not to exceed five years or a fine not to exceed five thousand dollars, or both. She also faces the possibility of being required to pay restitution to Liberty Mutual for their costs incurred associated with the evaluation and defense of the fraudulent claim.
