Observant Deputy Finds Hit and Run Suspect Vehicle

Due to extensive media coverage and an observant Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Deputy, Louisiana State Troopers, with the assistance of Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Deputies, arrested Kathleen Fitzpatrick (W/F, age 34) of Gonzales today and charged her with felony hit and run driving. The arrest came following a traffic stop made by an Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Deputy. At 9:30 this morning, the deputy noticed a silver 2005 Toyota 4-Runner traveling on LA 76 near Maringouin matching the description of the suspected Ascension Parish hit and run vehicle from Monday night. The deputy had seen photos and the description of the suspect vehicle before his shift on a local news channel and recognized the vehicle and matching damage. He conducted a traffic stop and contacted his supervisor, who then contacted Troop A.

Troopers arrived and compared physical evidence from the scene to the vehicle. Based on this evidence, Troopers obtained a search warrant for the vehicle, which was then transported to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for forensic analysis. Troopers and deputies continued the investigation and placed Fitzpatrick under arrest this afternoon. She will be booked into the Ascension Parish Jail on felony hit and run charges.

“Attention to detail and proactive police work of a young deputy are the reasons that we have a suspect in custody tonight,” said Colonel Mike Edmonson, State Police Superintendent. “Our established partnerships with the Iberville and Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Offices and great investigative work were essential in bringing closure to this case.”

Colonel Edmonson personally called the young deputy and thanked him for his efforts.

Troopers Searching for Hit and Run Suspect

Prairieville – Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a hit and run crash involving a pedestrian last night in Ascension Parish on LA 42. The crash occurred at approximately 11:30 pm on LA 42 east of LA 431, when an unknown vehicle traveling westbound on LA 42 struck a young woman walking along the roadway and did not stop. Tommie Hadley (W/F, age 22) of Prairieville sustained life-threatening injuries when she was struck and was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital by Acadian Ambulance Airmed.

Evidence gathered at the scene suggests that the vehicle is either a Toyota 4-Runner or a Toyota Tacoma Pre-Runner, model years between 2003 and 2005, and it is silver. There will be damage to the right front corner of the vehicle. The right front fender flare and the right lower corner of the front bumper are missing. The right side mirror is also missing. The damage should be very noticeable. Troopers are continuing the investigation and following all leads. The Louisiana State Police Crime Lab is processing the scene of the crash for additional evidence.
