Baton Rouge Woman Arrested in Fraudulent Prescription Investigation Baton Rouge – Louisiana State Police Narcotics investigators working in the Baton Rouge area arrested Stacie Chittom (W/F, age 43) of Baton Rouge on Tuesday following an investigation into her actions while employed with a Baton Rouge doctor’s office. On November 30, 2010, Narcotics Troopers received information that an employee of the Foot Clinic of Baton Rouge had fraudulently written prescriptions and obtained Controlled Dangerous Substances (CDS) at area pharmacies in East Baton Rouge Parish. Troopers contacted the owner of the Foot Clinic of Baton Rouge, who confirmed numerous prescriptions to be fraudulent. Troopers’ investigation revealed that the office manager, Stacie Chittom, had recently faxed over a fraudulent refill request to a Wal-Mart neighborhood pharmacy. Later the same day, Chittom arrived at the Wal-Mart pharmacy and attempted to obtain forty (40) dosage units of Lortab. Troopers arrested Chittom without incident in the pharmacy drive-thru. Further investigation revealed that Chittom had obtained over 5,900 units of Lortab since April 2009 by writing and signing fraudulent prescriptions. Troopers booked Chittom into the EBR Parish Prison on one count of attempting to obtain a Schedule III CDS by Fraud. This investigation is part of the Louisiana State Police’s continuing efforts to combat the drug diversion threat in our communities. The mission of the program is to protect the health, safety and welfare of the public by ensuring all of the laws pertaining to pharmacy and controlled dangerous substances are followed by both registrants and any others who handle or possess pharmaceuticals. Narcotics Troopers work closely with the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy’s NPLEX prescription monitoring program to monitor all scheduled narcotic prescriptions and prescription medication that has a potential for abuse. Louisiana State Police believes that educating the public and other law enforcement agencies is the first step in reducing the illicit use of prescription medication. If the public is aware of individuals involved in drug diversion, they are encouraged to contact the Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division at 225-925-7282 | |||
