| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent Troop A – News Release
Unrestrained Driver Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash Plaquemine – Louisiana State Police Troop A investigated a single-vehicle crash in Iberville Parish last night that claimed the life of a Plaquemine woman who was not restrained. Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Deputies assisted Troopers with the crash investigation and traffic shortly after 8:00 pm until they were able to clear the roadway an hour later. Troopers’ preliminary investigation revealed that Lola Light, age 44, of Plaquemine was driving a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am north on LA 75, just south of the LA 75 Spur, when she entered a right-hand curve and lost control of the vehicle. Light’s vehicle began to rotate clockwise, ran off the roadway to the right, and began to roll onto its driver’s side. The vehicle then struck several trees with its roof and came to rest in approximately two feet of water on its driver’s side. Light was not restrained when the crash occurred and was partially ejected. She was pinned beneath the vehicle in the water, and was pronounced deceased on the scene by the Iberville Parish Coroner’s Office. It is unknown if impairment was a factor in this crash. Troopers have submitted a sample of Light’s blood to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis. Troopers would like to remind the motoring public that wearing a seat belt is not only the law, but also it can mean the difference between life and death. During a rollover crash, the safest place to be is INSIDE the vehicle. The only way to ensure this is to be properly restrained. Partial ejections during rollover crashes nearly always lead to death. Troop A has investigated seven fatal crashes this month, and the common theme in these deaths has been the lack of seat belt use. In SIX of the SEVEN fatal crashes this month, the person killed in the crash was not restrained. There is no good reason not to wear a seat belt. BUCKLE UP…SEAT BELTS SAVE LIVES!!!
