TROOP A NEWS RELEASE October 31, 2017 Donaldsonville Woman Dies after Striking 18-Wheeler in Ascension Parish Donaldsonville – Shortly before 7:00 pm on October 30, 2017, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash on LA 943 west of LA 1 in Ascension Parish. The crash resulted in the death of 55 year old Linda Regira of Donaldsonville. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Regira was traveling westbound on LA 943 in a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer. At the same time, 36 year old Corey Landry of Plaquemine was stopped partially in the roadway on the westbound side of LA 943 in a 2007 Peterbilt. For reasons still under investigation, Regira failed to stop and struck the rear of Landry’s trailer. Landry was outside of his vehicle checking an issue with the trailer at the time of the crash. Regira was not restrained and sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash. She was transported to Prevost Hospital where she was pronounced deceased by hospital staff. Landry was not injured. It unknown if impairment was a factor in this crash but a toxicology sample will be taken from both drivers for analysis. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that all occupants of a motor vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
