TROOP A - NEWS RELEASE

July 2, 2011

Sobriety Checkpoint Scheduled in Livingston Parish

SpringfieldLouisiana State Police Troop A will conduct a sobriety checkpoint in Livingston Parish tonight. The checkpoint will take place in Springfield on LA 22 west of LA 1038 from 8:00 pm until 2:00 am. Troopers will be out aggressively enforcing the state’s DWI laws throughout the holiday weekend in an effort to keep impaired drivers off our roadways and ensure the motoring public’s safety.

Every year on the highways across the state of Louisiana, people are killed or seriously injured because of impaired drivers. Sobriety checkpoints are effective enforcement tools because they serve as a deterrent to impaired driving. Not allowing impaired drivers to get behind the wheel and reporting impaired drivers and hazardous roadway conditions to law enforcement agencies can save lives. The public is encouraged to share in the responsibility of keeping impaired drivers off our roadways. To report dangerous drivers or hazardous roadway conditions, call *LSP or (*577) from your cell phone.

In addition to the sobriety checkpoint, additional Troopers will be patrolling the entire Troop A area utilizing federal highway grant funds allocated to increase safety throughout the weekend. State Police is participating in the “Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest.” campaign throughout the month of July.

Troopers would like to remind everyone to buckle up and drive safely this weekend. Making a few good decisions can mean the difference between life and death – always buckle up, never drive impaired, and never get into a vehicle with an impaired driver.
