Mississippi Man Killed in Two Vehicle Crash on US 61

West Feliciana Parish At approximately 7:00 pm on November 17, 2017, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle crash that resulted in a fatality on US Hwy 61 near the Louisiana/Mississippi state line in West Feliciana Parish. The crash took the life of 55 year old Ian T. Wilson of Woodville, MS.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Wilson was traveling northbound on US Hwy 61 in a 1996 Chevrolet pickup truck. At the same time, 60 year old Marshall Davis of Vidalia was also traveling northbound on US Hwy 61 in a 1996 Jeep Cherokee. Both vehicles were in the left lane, and Wilson began slowing his vehicle due to another northbound vehicle ahead of his making a left turn. Davis was traveling behind Wilson, and for reasons still under investigation failed to slow his Jeep as Wilson slowed his Chevrolet. As a result the Jeep struck the Chevrolet in the rear, causing the Chevrolet to leave the roadway to the right where it traveled down an embankment and rolled over. The Jeep came to rest in the center median.

Wilson was unrestrained at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported from the scene by Acadian Ambulance to West Feliciana Parish Hospital in St. Francisville where he was pronounced deceased. Davis was properly restrained at the time of the crash. He and three passengers in his vehicle were transported from the scene to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge with minor to moderate injuries. Impairment on the part of both drivers is unknown at this time, but a toxicology sample was taken from both to be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that all occupants of a motor vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
