| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent Troop A – News Release
Unrestrained Driver Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash Baton Rouge – Louisiana State Police Troop A investigated a single-vehicle crash this morning in East Baton Rouge Parish that claimed the life of an unrestrained driver. The crash occurred at approximately 5:30 am and the roadway remained closed to traffic for almost two hours while Troopers investigated and cleared the crash. This is the third fatal crash Troopers have investigated in twelve days involving an unrestrained occupant in the Troop A area. Troopers’ preliminary investigation revealed that Harry Sherman (W/M, age 61) of Albany was driving a 1993 Peterbuilt tractor-trailer west on LA 64 east of LA 964 when he entered a right-hand curve and crossed into the oncoming lane. Sherman steered sharply to the right and the vehicle overturned onto its left side, slid off the roadway to the left, and struck a private driveway. Sherman, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced deceased on the scene by the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office. Alcohol is not suspected to have played a factor in this crash; however, Troopers have submitted a sample of Sherman’s blood to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis. Troop A has investigated twenty (20) fatal crashes so far this year. In sixteen (16) of these crashes, the person killed was NOT wearing a seat belt. Studies clearly show that not wearing a seatbelt increases the chances of serious injury and death when involved in a crash. BUCKLE UP…SEAT BELTS SAVE LIVES!!! Contact Information: TFC Russell G.
