The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as 46 year old St. James resident Elaine Lewis was driving a 2003 Ford Taurus westbound on LA Hwy 70. At the same time, 48 year old Griselda Davis was driving a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta eastbound on LA Hwy 70. For unknown reasons Lewis’ Taurus crossed the centerline and struck the Jetta head on. Despite the fact that she was properly restrained, Davis succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. Lewis was also properly restrained, yet suffered serious injuries from the crash.

During the course of the investigation, Troopers spoke to several witnesses both at the scene and afterwards. One witness stated to Troopers that she was driving westbound on LA Hwy 70 two cars behind the Ford Taurus when she observed the crash. She also stated that there was another car in between hers and the Taurus, and that an unidentified female was driving it. The unidentified female stopped her vehicle after the crash and made several interesting comments to bystanders as to what may have caused the crash. However, this unidentified female left the scene before Troopers were able to speak with her.

Investigating Troopers believe that the unidentified female witness may live out of state. However, they are hoping that she made statements to family members who may live in the area and are possibly familiar with the crash. Troopers wish to speak to this witness to help bring closure to the families affected by this fatal crash.
