TROOP A NEWS RELEASE September 28, 2013 East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Deputy Killed in Fatal Crash Central – Shortly after 7:15 pm on September 27, 2013, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 946 (Joor Rd.) south of Lovett Rd. in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash took the life of 24 year old East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Deputy Dustin B. Hamilton of Central. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Hamilton was driving a fully marked 2009 Chevrolet Impala Sheriff’s unit northbound on Joor Rd. At the same time, 26 year old Gloria Burrell of Zachary was driving a 1999 Ford Explorer southbound on Joor Rd. For unknown reasons, Hamilton lost control of his unit and crossed into the southbound lanes of travel. Hamilton overcorrected to the right and upon doing so his Impala was struck on the driver’s side by Burrell’s Explorer. Hamilton suffered fatal injuries from the crash. Burrell was transported from the scene to Ochsner Medical Center in Baton Rouge with serious injuries. Impairment is not suspected to have been a factor on the part of either driver; however, routine toxicology samples were obtained from both Hamilton and Burrell. Contact Information: | |||
