TROOP A NEWS RELEASE October 21, 2013 Unrestrained Livingston Man Killed in Ascension Parish Fatal Crash Sorrento – Shortly after 5:00 am on October 21, 2013, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash that occurred on I-10 westbound west of LA Hwy 22 in Ascension Parish. The crash took the life of 33 year old Livingston resident Daniel E. McMorris. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as McMorris was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado westbound on I-10 in the right lane. At the same time, 50 year old Elias Babin III of Laplace was driving a 2013 Volvo tractor-trailer westbound on I-10 in the left lane. For unknown reasons McMorris’ Colorado struck the right rear of the Volvo tractor-trailer. Due to the fact that he was not wearing a seatbelt, McMorris was partially ejected from his vehicle. He suffered fatal injuries from the crash. Babin was properly restrained and was uninjured in the crash. Impairment on the part of either driver is not suspected to have been a factor in the crash. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Taking the time to buckle up before every trip is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash. Contact Information: | |||
