TROOP A NEWS RELEASE November 20, 2013 Unrestrained Woman Killed in Livingston Parish Fatal Crash Watson – Shortly before 10:30 pm on November 19, 2013, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 1024 east of LA Hwy 16 in Livingston Parish. The crash took the life of 51 year old Lena M. Johnson of Denham Springs. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Johnson was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Impala westbound on LA Hwy 1024. For unknown reasons, Johnson failed to negotiate a left hand curve and the Impala ran off the roadway to the right and entered into a ditch. Upon entering the ditch, the vehicle and struck a culvert and became airborne. Johnson was unrestrained at the time of the crash. She was ejected from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries as a result. Although impairment is not considered to be a factor in the crash, a toxicology sample was taken from Johnson and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Taking the time to buckle up before every trip is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash. Contact Information: | |||
