TROOP A NEWS RELEASE December 3, 2013 Unidentified Pedestrian Killed in Livingston Parish Crash Walker – Shortly before 6:00 pm on December 3, 2013, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian that occurred on LA Hwy 447 north of LA Hwy 1025 (Arnold Rd.) in Livingston Parish. The crash took the life of an unknown female pedestrian. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as the unknown female (who was dressed in dark clothing) was walking northbound along LA Hwy 447. At the same time, 61 year old Alice Devall of Walker was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe northbound on LA Hwy 447. For unknown reasons the female pedestrian stepped into the northbound lane of travel. Devall was unable to avoid striking the pedestrian as she stepped into the roadway. The unidentified female pedestrian sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Troopers are working with the Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office to determine the identity of the pedestrian. Impairment on the part of Devall is not suspected to be a factor, and she was not cited in the crash. This crash remains under investigation, and the identity of the pedestrian is pending. Anyone with any information regarding the identity of the pedestrian is urged to call Troop A at 225-754-8500, or their local law enforcement agency. Crashes involving pedestrians can often be avoided by following some basic safety guidelines. Pedestrians should wear light-colored or reflective clothing and should always avoid walking on the roadway in dark areas. Pedestrians must also assume that approaching motorists cannot see them, especially at night.
