TROOP A NEWS RELEASE

Unidentified Female Killed in Ascension Parish Fatal Crash

Prairieville Shortly before 10:30 am on September 7, 2013, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 930 south of LA Hwy 42 at Henry Rd. in Ascension Parish. The crash took the life of an unidentified Hispanic female.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as the Hispanic female was driving a 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser eastbound on Henry Rd. At the same time, 44 year old Mark Heffley of Denham Springs was driving a 1999 Ford F-450 southbound on LA 930. For unknown reasons the Hispanic female failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Henry Rd. and LA 930. Upon entering the intersection, the PT Cruiser was struck by Heffley’s F-450.

Despite the fact that she was wearing a seatbelt, the unidentified Hispanic female suffered fatal injuries from the crash. Due to the fact that she was carrying a fake ID card, the female has not yet been identified. There were 6 passengers in the PT Cruiser at the time of the crash, including several juveniles. All were transported to local hospitals with minor to moderate injuries, except for one juvenile who was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge with serious injuries. Impairment on the part of either driver is not suspected to have been a factor in the crash.

Troopers urge the public to remain vigilant while driving at all times. Never drive a motor vehicle when impaired or fatigued. Always remain buckled up while in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, and make sure that all children are properly restrained. Avoid distracting activities, especially the temptations of electronic devices that can substantially divert a driver’s attention away from the road, and always obey all traffic control devices.
