TROOP A NEWS RELEASE September 5, 2013 Unrestrained Maurepas Woman Killed in Ascension Parish Crash St. Amant – Shortly before 9:45 pm on September 4, 2013, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 22 west of LA Hwy 16 in Ascension Parish. The crash took the life of 36 year old Maurepas resident Sheri N. Luke. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as 22 year old Jean-Eric Sebastian Siau of Maurepas was driving a 2004 Lincoln Town Car westbound on LA 22 just east of the Diversion Canal. For unknown reasons Siau’s vehicle ran off of the roadway to the left. Upon leaving the roadway, the Town Car entered into a ditch and struck several trees. Luke (the front seat passenger) was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered fatal injuries from the crash. Siau was also unrestrained, and he suffered serious injuries from the crash. He was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge. Impairment on his part is not suspected to have been a factor in the crash. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Taking the time to buckle up before every trip is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash. Contact Information: | |||
