Teenage Driver Succumbs to Injuries Sustained in W. Feliciana Parish Crash

Wakefield Shortly before 9:45 pm on August 31, 2013, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle serious injury crash that occurred on LA Hwy 421 east of US Hwy 61 in West Feliciana Parish. The crash ultimately took the life of 18 year old St. Francisville resident Colton Crum.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Crum was driving a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant westbound on LA 421. For unknown reasons Crum failed to negotiate a right hand curve, and the Galant ran off of the roadway to the left. Upon leaving the roadway, the vehicle entered into a ditch before striking several trees and a fencepost.

Despite the fact that he was wearing a seatbelt, Crum suffered serious injuries from the crash. He was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge. Crum succumbed to his injuries early in the morning on September 3, 2013. Impairment on his part is not suspected to have been a factor in the crash.

Troopers urge the public to remain vigilant while driving at all times. Never drive a motor vehicle when impaired or fatigued. Always remain buckled up while in a vehicle, regardless of seating position. Avoid distracting activities, especially the temptations of electronic devices that can substantially divert a driver’s attention away from the road, and always obey all traffic control devices.
