Pineville Man Killed in East Baton Rouge Parish Fatal Crash

Baton Rouge At approximately 8:30 pm on December 6, 2013, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 42 (Highland Rd.) west of Pecue Ln. in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash took the life of 28 year old Matthew J. Tucker of Pineville, LA.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Tucker was driving a 2005 Ford pickup truck westbound on Highland Rd. For unknown reasons, Tucker’s Ford drifted off the roadway to the right. Tucker overcorrected to the left, causing his vehicle to cross back over both lanes of travel. The Ford then ran off the roadway to the left where it entered into a ditch and struck several trees.

Despite the fact that he was properly restrained, Tucker suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Impairment is unknown at this time; however, a toxicology sample was taken from Tucker and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every occupant in a vehicle to be properly restrained at all times. This is the time of year when Troopers usually see a significant increase in serious injury and fatal crashes. Louisiana State Police would like to remind motorists to be extra cautious when driving on our roadways during the holiday season.
