TROOP A NEWS RELEASE March 23, 2014 Unrestrained Driver Killed in Iberville Parish Fatal Crash White Castle – Shortly after 11:00 pm on March 22, 2014, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 1 north of LA Hwy 993 in Iberville Parish. The crash took the life of 52 year old Armise Thomas, III of Paulina. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Thomas was driving a 2012 Mercedes Benz GK3 southbound on LA Hwy 1. For unknown reasons Thomas ran off the roadway to the left and his vehicle entered the median. After crossing the median, the Mercedes crossed the northbound lanes of LA Hwy 1 and entered a ditch. The vehicle exited the ditch, struck an embankment and became airborne before striking a pole. Thomas was unrestrained and was ejected from the vehicle. He suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Driver impairment is unknown at this time; however, a toxicology sample was taken from Thomas and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Excessive speed is considered to have been a factor in the crash. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Taking the time to buckle up before every trip is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash. Contact Information: | |||
