TROOP A NEWS RELEASE March 27, 2014 Impairment Suspected in Ascension Parish Crash that Kills Motorcyclist Geismar – Shortly after 7:30 pm on March 26, 2014, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash involving a motorcycle that occurred on LA Hwy 429 north of LA Hwy 73 in Ascension Parish. The crash took the life of 45 year old Mark A. Boudreaux, Jr. of Gonzales. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as 25 year old Gonzales resident Justin D. Juul was driving a 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck northbound on LA Hwy 429. At the same time, Boudreaux was riding a 2011 Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound on LA Hwy 429. For unknown reasons Juul’s Chevrolet ran off the roadway to the right. Juul overcorrected and his vehicle entered the southbound lane of travel. The Chevrolet struck Boudreaux’s Harley, and as a result Boudreaux was ejected from his motorcycle. Boudreaux suffered fatal injuries despite the fact that he was wearing a helmet. Impairment on his part is not suspected. Juul suffered only minor injuries as a result of the crash, and impairment on his part is suspected. Juul was placed under arrest and booked into the Ascension Parish jail for LRS 32:58 (Careless operation), LRS 14:98 (DWI – First offense), and LRS 14:32.1 (Vehicular homicide). Troopers wish to remind drivers that impaired driving continues to be a major problem throughout Louisiana. Whether impaired through alcohol, drugs, or a combination of the two, the consequences of driving while impaired remain the same. Troopers will continue to enforce Louisiana’s DWI laws across the state and remain committed to a public education campaign to end impaired driving. Have a plan and designate a driver before you decide to operate a vehicle while impaired. Contact Information: | |||
