Melville Man Killed in West Baton Rouge Parish Fatal Crash

Port Allen Shortly before 7:00 am on March 27, 2014, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash that occurred on US Hwy 190 west of LA Hwy 1 in West Baton Rouge Parish. The crash took the life of 51 year old Ricky Moore of Melville, LA.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as 54 year old Barry Huffman of Elmwood, KS was driving a 1996 Kenwood tractor-trailer westbound on US Hwy 190. At the same time, Moore was driving eastbound on US Hwy 190 in the left hand lane in a 2000 Toyota Camry. Huffman was attempting to make a U-turn to travel eastbound on US Hwy 190. For unknown reasons Moore’s Camry struck the rear wheels of the trailer.

Despite the fact that he was wearing his seatbelt Moore sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Huffman was properly restrained and was uninjured. Driver impairment is not suspected for either driver at this time; however, toxicology samples were taken from both drivers and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation, and charges may be pending.

Although not all crashes are survivable, Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Taking the time to buckle up before every trip is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.
