TROOP A NEWS RELEASE December 16, 2017 Albany Man Dies after Two Vehicle Crash in Livingston Parish Livingston Parish – Shortly after 6:00 am on December 16, 2017, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle crash that resulted in a fatality on LA 43 south of LA 1064 in Livingston Parish. The crash resulted in the death of 79 year old Bobby Stewart of Albany. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as 34 year old Chad Purvis of Independence was traveling northbound on LA 43 in a 2002 Dodge Ram. Purvis’ vehicle became disabled in the roadway and he began directing traffic around his vehicle using a flashlight. At the same time, Stewart was traveling northbound on LA 43 in a 2015 Kia Soul. For reasons still under investigation, Stewart failed to stop and struck Purvis’ vehicle. Stewart was properly restrained, but sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash. He was transported to North Oaks Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash, but a toxicology sample will be taken from both drivers for analysis. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that while not all crashes are survivable, they are preventable. Making the right choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
