Troopers Arrest Denham Springs Man for Sixth Offense DWI after Causing Serious Injury Crash

Denham Springs On April 16, 2014, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop “A” obtained an arrest warrant and placed 29 year old Lee Edward Easley of Denham Springs under arrest for 6th offense DWI. The arrest came as the result of a serious injury crash that was caused by Easley on February 1, 2014 in Livingston Parish.

At approximately 9:00 am on February 1, 2014, Easley was driving a 2013 Mazda3 westbound on LA Hwy 1026 (Lockhart Rd.) east of LA Hwy 16. At the same time, 30 year old Greenwell Springs resident Wayne Lafleur, Jr. was driving a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on LA Hwy 1026. As Easley continued westbound, he failed to maintain control of the vehicle causing the Mazda to cross into the eastbound lane of travel and impact the Silverado head on. Both Easley and Lafleur were transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge with moderate to severe injuries.

Investigating Troopers suspected Easley was under the influence of narcotics at the time of the crash, and a toxicology sample was obtained from him by medical professionals at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. Upon receiving the toxicology results, Troopers learned that Easley tested positive for several narcotics and had received five previous DWI charges prior to the February 1st crash.

Troopers subsequently obtained an arrest warrant through the 21st Judicial District Court charging Easley with DWI (6th offense), Reckless operation of a motor vehicle, 1st degree vehicular negligent injuring and Possession of Schedule I narcotics (Marijuana). Troopers located Easley at his residence in Denham Springs and placed him under arrest. He was booked into the Livingston Parish Jail on the above listed charges.

Troopers wish to remind motorists that impaired driving and drugged driving continues to be a major problem throughout Louisiana. Whether impaired through alcohol, drugs, or a combination of the two, the consequences of driving while impaired remain the same. Troopers will actively enforce Louisiana’s DWI laws across the state and will remain committed to a public education campaign to end impaired and drugged driving. Have a plan and designate a driver before you decide to operate a vehicle while impaired.
