Troop A - NEWS RELEASE March 9, 2014 Alcohol and Drug Use Suspected in Two Vehicle Serious Injury Crash St. Francisville - Yesterday evening, at approximately 10:45 pm Louisiana State Police Troop A responded to a two vehicle serious injury crash on La. 969 north of La. 66 near Angola State Penitentiary in West Feliciana Parish. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 1997 Chevrolet pick-up operated by Raoul Cavalier (B/M 66) of St. Francisville was traveling northbound on La. 969 and a 2011 Dodge Crew Cab operated by Alan Perry (W/M 34) of St. Francisville was traveling southbound on La. 969. Cavalier, for reasons under investigation, crossed the centerline and traveled approximately 3 feet into the southbound lane causing the left front of the Chevrolet to impact the left front of the Dodge. The impact dislodged the front left tire and the driver’s door from the Chevrolet. Perry and Lacie Deville (W/F 25) of Denham Springs (front passenger) were properly restrained and refused medical aid. Alcohol is not suspected on Perry’s part. Cavalier was air-lifted with serious injuries to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge. Cavalier was properly restrained at the time of the crash; however, alcohol and drug use are suspected on his part. Blood and urine samples were collected so toxicological analyses can be performed at the LSP Crime Laboratory. Those results and charges for Cavalier are pending as this crash remains under investigation. Troopers remind motorists that impairment continues to be a leading factor in serious injury and fatal crashes across the state. A person’s ability to make good decisions are diminished as alcohol is absorbed in the body. This can began after consuming just one drink. Troopers continue to urge motorists to remain vigilant while on area roadways, pay close attention to their surroundings, never drive impaired, and always have a plan. This plan should always include choosing a designated driver when drinking alcohol or taking medications that potentially impair. Contact Information:
