TROOP A NEWS RELEASE December 19, 2013 Pursuit Leads to Arrest of New Orleans Homicide Suspect Prairieville – Shortly before 2:00 pm on December 19, 2013, a Trooper observed a 2008 Infiniti G35 traveling at a high rate of speed westbound on I-10 near US Hwy 61 in Ascension Parish. The Trooper attempted to stop the Infiniti, but the driver (Antwine L. Smith, B/M, DOB 5/26/1976) continued traveling westbound on I-10 before exiting to travel northbound on US Hwy 61. The Trooper initiated a pursuit through Sorrento and into Gonzales. The Trooper stopped the pursuit in the Gonzales area, and gave a description of the vehicle to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office. Deputies located the vehicle on Cully Broussard Rd. off of LA Hwy 42 at LA Hwy 929 in Prairieville. An eyewitness told Deputies that Smith had abandoned the vehicle and was running on foot. Elayn Hunt Correctional Center was notified and provided K9 search dogs, and LSP Air Support assisted in attempting to locate Smith. Smith was found hiding in the woods off of Cully Broussard Rd. Smith was placed under arrest for LRS 32:61 (Speeding) and LRS 14:108.1 (Aggravated flight from an officer). It was also learned that Smith was wanted by the New Orleans Police Department for a homicide warrant. Troopers booked Smith into the Ascension Parish Prison on the above listed charges, and he will be transported back to New Orleans for the outstanding homicide warrant. It was only through the combined efforts of all organizations involved that led to the safe apprehension of Smith. Louisiana State Troopers will remain dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of the people in the state.
