Unrestrained Driver Killed in Ascension Parish Fatal Crash

Donaldsonville Shortly after 11:00 pm on January 13, 2014, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 405 north of LA Hwy 1 near Brou Road in Ascension Parish. The crash took the life of 51 year old Ronald J. Skinner of White Castle.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Skinner was driving a 2012 Chevrolet pickup truck westbound on LA Hwy 405. For unknown reasons Skinner’s vehicle drifted to the left, crossed the eastbound lane of travel and ran off the roadway to the right. The Chevrolet then entered into a ditch and struck a utility pole.

Skinner was unrestrained and suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Impairment is unknown at this time; however, a toxicology sample was taken from Skinner and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Taking the time to buckle up before every trip is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.
