TROOP A NEWS RELEASE February 4, 2014 Sorrento Woman Killed in Ascension Parish Fatal Crash Gonzales – Shortly before 5:00 pm on February 4, 2014, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 931 east of LA Hwy 44 in Ascension Parish. The crash took the life of 25 year old Ramsey A. Ogwynn of Sorrento. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Ogwynn was driving a 2004 Nissan Maxima eastbound on LA Hwy 931. At the same time, 30 year old Eric Campbell of Gonzales was driving a 1996 Chevrolet Blazer westbound on LA Hwy 931. For unknown reasons Ogwynn’s Nissan crossed over the centerline into the westbound lane of travel. As a result, Campbell’s Blazer struck Ogwynn’s Maxima on the right side. Despite the fact that she was properly restrained, Ogwynn suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Campbell was properly restrained and suffered only minor to moderate injuries. A three year old infant in Campbell’s vehicle was properly restrained in a child safety seat, and suffered only minor to moderate injuries as well. Both were transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge. Impairment on the part of either driver is not suspected at this time; however, toxicology samples were taken from both Ogwynn and Campbell and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. While not all crashes are survivable, Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Taking the time to buckle up before every trip is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash. Contact Information: | |||
