TROOP A NEWS RELEASE February 19, 2014 Unrestrained Teenager Killed in Ascension Parish Fatal Crash Sorrento – Shortly before 9:15 am on February 19, 2014, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 22 east of LA Hwy 70 in Ascension Parish. The crash took the life of 19 year old Derek L. Boully of Livingston. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Boully was driving a 2009 Nissan pickup truck eastbound on LA Hwy 22. For unknown reasons Boully failed to negotiate a left hand curve, and his Nissan ran off the roadway to the right. Upon leaving the roadway the Nissan rolled several times. Boully was unrestrained and was ejected from the truck. He suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Driver impairment is not suspected at this time; however, a toxicology sample was taken from Boully and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Taking the time to buckle up before every trip is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash. Contact Information: | |||
