TROOP A NEWS RELEASE June 6, 2013 Unrestrained Plaquemine Woman Killed in Iberville Parish Crash Plaquemine – This morning shortly after 5:00 am, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 75 south of LA Hwy 3066 (Bayou Rd.) in Iberville Parish. The crash took the life of 40 year old Plaquemine resident Tonia W. Abshire. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Abshire was driving a 2000 Nissan Sentra southbound on LA Hwy 75. For unknown reasons, the Nissan crossed the centerline and ran off of the roadway to the left. After leaving the roadway the vehicle entered a ditch, overturned and struck a tree. Abshire was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. She sustained fatal injuries from the crash. Impairment is not suspected; however, Troopers have submitted a toxicology sample from Abshire to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Excessive speed is considered to be a factor in the crash. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Taking the time to buckle up before every trip is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash. Contact Information: | |||
