TROOP A NEWS RELEASE January 6, 2018 Prairieville Woman Dies after Two Vehicle Crash in Ascension Parish St. Amant – Shortly after 6:00 pm on January 5, 2018, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle crash on LA 431 near the intersection of Gold Place Rd. in Ascension Parish. Troopers later learned that 75 year old Zora Marshall of Prairieville had died due to injuries she sustained in the crash. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as 74 year old Paul Marshall of Prairieville was traveling northbound on LA 431 in a 1995 Ford Econoline van. At the same time, 49 year old William Huber of Gonzales was making a left turn onto LA 431 from a parking lot in a 2003 Dodge Ram. Huber failed to yield and struck Marshall’s vehicle. Zora Marshall was properly restrained but sustained injuries in the crash. She was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital where she was later pronounced deceased. Paul Marshall and William Huber were properly restrained and were not injured in the crash. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash but toxicology samples were taken from both drivers for analysis. Huber was cited for Failure to Yield, Driving Under Suspension, and Switched License Plate. This crash remains under investigation and further charges are pending. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that while not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
