TROOP A NEWS RELEASE
November 9, 2012

Baton Rouge – Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop A are investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash which occurred on US 61 (Airline Hwy.) south of Pecue Lane in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash occurred this evening shortly after 4:05 pm.

Troopers’ preliminary investigation revealed that Kyle J. Meyers (W/M, age 25) of Prairieville was operating a 2012 Kawasaki Motorcycle southbound on US 61 south of Pecue Ln. in the left hand lane approaching the Price Leblanc Toyota Dealership. June D. Girlinghouse (W/F, age 78) of Baton Rouge was operating a 2009 Nissan Altima and was exiting the Price Leblanc Dealership. Girlinghouse was attempting to cross both southbound lanes of US 61 in order to turn left and travel north on US 61. Girlinghouse failed to notice the motorcycle being operated by Meyers, and pulled out directly in front of him. Meyers was unable to stop his vehicle and collided with Girlinghouses’ Nissan. Meyers was ejected from the motorcycle and suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office.

Troopers do not suspect impairment to have been a factor in this crash on the part of either driver; however, routine toxicology samples have been obtained from both drivers involved and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers remind motorists to always be aware of their surroundings and to be prepared to react in an instant at all times. Motorcycle riders should always exercise caution while driving, especially in heavy traffic. They should also take extra steps to ensure that other motorists will see them. Light-colored or reflective clothing is recommended any time motorcyclists are on the road.
